Medical Equipment

Transitioning to hospice care can be daunting and leaves patients and their families with questions, such as what to expect and what they need. To remove some of this uncertainty, hospice providers like Inspire Hospice will provide all the medical equipment needed to ensure our patients are comfortable and receive care tailored to their unique medical and emotional needs.

Knowing what medical supplies are provided allows families and patients to focus on their time together instead of worrying about purchasing equipment and setting it up.

What Medical Supplies are Provided?

The patient journey at Inspire Hospice begins with an assessment by our physicians and nurses to determine what medical equipment will be needed to meet the unique needs of our patients.

Over the course of a couple of days, all medical equipment will be ordered, delivered, and set up in the patient’s room.

Medical equipment that is supplied includes but is not limited to:

  • Beds and chairs: This includes adjustable beds (electric), alternating air pressure mattresses and cushions, bedside commodes, wheelchairs, shower chairs, and geriatric recliners (Geri chairs)
  • Oxygen concentrator and portable tanks for power outages
  • Walker
  • Ostomy supplies and Foley catheters, if related to a diagnosed condition
  • Suction equipment

Patients and families looking for specific equipment or brands are more than welcome to purchase their own.

When Will Patients Get Their Medical Supplies

The first couple of days at the hospice will be very busy, with plenty of people coming and going as patients’ medical equipment arrives and gets set up. After the first consultation, our care team will assess and order the necessary equipment.

Our goal is to make this process as seamless and quick as possible.

Medical Supplies Not Provided at Hospice

While hospice does provide all medical equipment needed to ensure the care team can carry out the highest level of care, there are some things that are not covered like:

  • Diagnostic imaging is not provided
  • Personal items like bedding or clothes are not provided
  • Medical supplies for curative purposes or treatments for non-related conditions

This list will differ depending on your hospice provider, so it is a good idea to check with your hospice when making the transition. At Inspire Hospice, our expert and dedicated care team is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to address your concerns and questions.

Who Pays For The Medical Supplies?

Inspire Hospice will pay for the medical supplies approved as part of the patient’s plan of care while receiving hospice services.
